Student Council

The Frederick Honors Student Council is an organization designed to promote the concerns, interests, and needs of the Frederick Honors College student body. The student council aims to give students a voice in Honors College decision-making, host events to connect students to one another, and communicate Honors-related opportunities to students. Meet the Officers

Brandon Hale
Brandon Hale

Student Council President

Brandon Hale is a fourth-year student at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in neuroscience and Spanish, on a pre-medical track. He is also minoring in chemistry, Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian culture, and plans to obtain certificates in conceptual foundations of medicine and Latin American studies. In the future, Brandon hopes to become a pediatric neurologist specializing in epileptic care. He is from Tabernacle, NJ, and is looking forward to serving as the FHC Student Council President for the 2025-2026 academic year!

Mercy Akanmu

Mercy Akanmu is a rising junior double majoring in neuroscience and history and philosophy of science and double minoring in chemistry and public policy. After college, she plans to attend medical school to become a neurosurgeon and also attain an MPP!  She is very excited to serve as executive vice president for the 2025-2026 school year.

Stephanie Derkovitz is a second-year honors student proudly from Buffalo, New York. She is studying biology on the pre-medicine track while also pursuing minors in business and chemistry along with a certificate in conceptual foundations of medicine. She hopes to attend medical school and become a dermatologist with a focus on the cosmetics industry. Stephanie is very excited to bring the Frederick Honors College community together by serving as the Vice President of Programming for the 2025-2026 academic year on the Student Council!

Elias Dunn is a second-year student at the University of Pittsburgh studying political science. In the future, he hopes to work in government, legislative affairs, or political campaigns. When not studying, he loves reading, listening to music, and exploring Pittsburgh. He is originally from Chicago, and is very excited to serve as VP of Communications in the 2025-26 academic year!

Colin Torres is a sophomore studying biology and economics double major with a minor in chemistry. He also plans to complete the certificate in the conceptual foundations of medicine. He plans on attending medical school after graduation and has ambitions to work with anesthesia. He is from Tinton Falls, NJ and is excited to serve as the Vice President of Finance for the 2025-2026 school year!

Alyssa McCoy is a second-year politics and philosophy major with the intention of earning a human rights and social justice certificatel. After she graduates, she hopes to go to law school. She is a pathfinder and serves on the Student Government Board elections committee. She's excited to get more involved with FHC and student council!
