If your BPhil project involves human participants, you are required to obtain approval from the University of Pittsburgh Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to beginning data collection for your research project.
All BPhil candidates -- including those whose research does not involve human participants -- must complete this form as verification of your project's status relative to the IRB:
BPhil IRB Status Form (fill-in PDF form)
Download this form, complete the appropriate sections, obtain signatures, and email the form (and if necessary, supporting documentation from the IRB) to David Hornyak at hornyak@pitt.edu.
For more information on IRB procedures and your responsibilities as a student researcher, consult the IRB website and this overview of Student Researcher Responsibilities (PDF).
Please also note that all research conducted for the BPhil degree must be in accordance with established regulatory requirements in your academic discipline, regardless of whether the project involves human participants.
