The Boren Awards pay for a study abroad experience focused on the study of less-commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. national interests.
Eligibility:
- U.S. citizen
- Current undergraduate or graduate student
- 18 years of age or older at time the application is submitted
- Planning to study in an overseas destination where no citizenship is held
- (For applicants who are ROTC cadets and midshipmen, members of the military Reserves, or National Guard: ) In inactive, non-drilling status for duration of Boren-funded program abroad
Deadline
Campus deadline: noon on January 7, 2026
National deadline: 5 p.m. on January 21, 2026 (graduate students) and January 28, 2026 (undergraduate students)
