Knight-Hennessy Scholars

Scholars receive full funding to pursue graduate study at Stanford. This includes the JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MS, and PhD programs, as well as joint- and dual-degrees. International students can apply. Candidate profile should include independence of thought, purposeful leadership, and a civic mindset.


Things to do now:
  • Thoroughly read through the eligibility requirements and candidate criteria.
  • Research requirements and application deadlines for graduate program at Stanford.
  • Schedule and complete any necessary testing required for graduate program.
  • Consider potential recommendation writers and discuss with a Scholar Mentor.
  • Put together a support team of faculty or advisors who would help with your application.
  • Schedule a meeting with Scholar Mentor Aidan Beatty at to discuss your application and potential endorsement.
  • Start your application.
  • Send for all university/college transcripts (unofficial is okay).
  • Transcripts for study abroad not necessary if grades are included in Pitt transcript.
  • Meet with a Scholar Mentor to review drafts of your essays and one page resume.
  • Talk to your Scholar Mentor about your online video submission.
  • Meet with your support team to discuss your essays.
  • Submit final (draft) application to Aidan by September 1st.
  • Have recommenders send draft letters to Aidan by September 1st.
  • Get interviewed by Pitt committee (mid September).
  • University chooses 4 candidates to endorse (contact Aidan Beatty by May 1st of your application year to discuss the endorsement process).
  • Revise application and submit final version online (deadline is in early October each year).
  • Submit online video.
