2021 Spring Term W-Course Options

2021 Spring Term W-Course Options

Any of the w-courses offered in the philosophy department will fulfill the w-requirement for declared P&P majors – however – I prefer that declared majors do NOT enroll in PHIL 0012 (Concepts of Human Nature) or PHIL 0082 (Intro to Philosophical Problems) because I would like you get the more in-depth treatment of a topic which generally is found in courses numbered at or above 0100.

If you want to enroll in one of the writing seminars in political science, you need to go to the political science department to obtain a permission number. Please note that the w-courses in the political science department are called "capstone" seminars and they will NOT count for the capstone requirement in the P&P major. In other words, the term "capstone" means something different for P&P majors than it does for political science majors.

Here are some suggestions for w-courses outside of political science and philosophy that you can substitute for w-courses in the P&P major for the 2021 Spring Term (2214). Please note that there may be multiple sections of these courses, not all of which are writing intensive, so you need to ensure that the course you are selecting is designated as a w-course. Also, this list is accurate as of October 26, 2020; some of these courses may have been canceled since that date and no longer appear in PeopleSoft.

Similarly, you may need to obtain a permission number if a course requires department consent, as you need to do in order to enroll in any political science capstone (w-course) seminar.

Finally, as with any course substitution, please contact David Hornyak if there are any not on this list you would like to propose.
