2021 Spring Term Honors Course Substitutions

Given the interdisciplinary nature of many honors college courses, there are a few that I will approve to fulfill requirements in the P&P major, even though they are not offered through the PS, PHIL/HPS, or ECON departments. Listed below are the substitutions you can make for the 2021 Spring Term (2214).

This list is accurate as of October 26, 2020; some of these courses may have been canceled since that date and no longer appear in PeopleSoft.

ECON 1910 – Seminar in Diversity: Current Economic Research
In addition to economics, it can also be used to fulfill a course in the "political science" component

ENGLIT 1009 – J.R.R. Tolkien and Counterculture
Can be used to fulfill a course in the "political science" component

GSWS 1141 – Special Topics in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies
Can be used to fulfill a course in the "political science" component

HIST 0713 – A Global History of Anarchism
Note that this is a LOWER-LEVEL course, but it can be used to fulfill a course in the "philosophy" or "political science" component

HIST 1625 – History of the American Frontier
Can be used to fulfill a course in the "political science" component

IL 1704 – Current Issues in Secondary Education
Can be used to fulfill a course in the "political science" component

Additionally, there is one honors course offered through the Law School:

LAW 2931 – Health Justice
Can be used to fulfill the P&P major capstone requirement – OR -- Can be used to fulfill a course in the "political science" component

In order to access information about LAW courses in PeopleSoft, do the following on the Class Search page:

In the Subject field, type LAW
Change the Course Career pull-down menu from Undergraduate to Graduate

Finally, EVERY student will need a permission number from the Law School to enroll in the LAW courses. Here's the procedure to request a permission number:

Send an email to lawreg@pitt.edu and include the following in your email:

1. State that you are an undergraduate student.
2. Give the specific course number (e.g., LAW 2910).
3. Provide your PeopleSoft ID number.

The Law School will email the permission number to you in return.

If there's a course not listed here (it doesn't have to be offered through the honors college, either) that you wish to have considered as a substitution within the P&P major, please contact David Hornyak (remember, the P&P major is thematic by nature).
