The Marshall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious competitive fellowships and offers up to 50 fully funded scholarships annually to U.S. citizens for graduate study in any field at a British university. The program is looking for academically strong candidates with demonstrated leadership who will aim to strengthen the special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. Candidates must be able to express how studying in Great Britain and gaining a deeper understanding of its culture and history will play an important role in their future plans. To apply, you must be nominated by Pitt. If a graduate degree in the UK aligns with your career trajectory, and you have a demonstrated record of leadership (broadly defined) as well as a GPA of 3.7 and above, consider applying to the Marshall Scholarship.
The Rhodes Scholarship is arguably the most prestigious award available. It offers fully funded study of two or more years at Oxford University for talented individuals from around the globe. Per the Rhodes guidelines, successful scholars will demonstrate academic excellence; energy to use your talents to the full; truth, courage, devotion to duty; and moral force of character. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership not only within their field of study but also their outside the classroom endeavors. Again, nomination by Pitt is required to apply for U.S. and Canadian citizens.
The Churchill and Kanders Churchill Scholarship funds about 18 scholarships per year, comprised of Master’s students pursuing STEM or science policy at Cambridge University. The award covers tuition, roundtrip airfare to the UK, visa fees and health surcharge, and a stipend that is set 5% higher than the UK Research Council standard. Recipients are eligible to apply for a $4,000 special research grant. Scholars are selected on the basis of academic and research achievement and aims to provide accomplished STEM students with the tools to maximize their future impact. Nomination is required, and Pitt can only nominate two candidates per year for the Churchill Scholarship.
