The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is one of the most prestigious and widely recognized national scholarships in the world. With the help and guidance of the Office of National Scholarships (ONS), the University of Pittsburgh has been named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution 10 times and has produced 129 winners since the 2013-14 cycle. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides opportunities for seniors, graduate students, and recent alumni to study at the graduate level, conduct research, or teach English in a country abroad. The goal of the program is to create global connections and promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding in 125+ countries.
Fulbright awards are split into two categories: English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Awards and Study/Research (S/R) Awards. ETA Awards make up the majority of available Fulbright opportunities, and they allow grantees to teach English in a local classroom abroad. S/R Awards fund independent research projects or graduate study. Both types of awards prioritize cultural immersion through work done in the classroom and community engagement outside of it.
