Successful ETA applicants can discuss their experience with teaching, conceived broadly. Whether you’ve been a teaching assistant, a camp counsellor, or already have experience teaching English to speakers of other languages, here are some opportunities to boost your Fulbright ETA application:
- Global Ties Mentors: A leadership and mentorship program at Pitt designed to support and integrate international students into the campus community through programming. Equips mentors with global competency and cross-cultural communication skills to mentor incoming international students.
- ELI Conversation Partners: Provides opportunities for highly proficient speakers of English to help international students improve their conversational English skills.
- Community Conversation Course (CCC): Provides highly motivated students access to the graduate practicum course for the MA TESOL program. Students are provided with a textbook and syllabus and teach conversation classes independently under close supervision of the program coordinator. They also get feedback on their teaching through classroom observations and meet regularly with the program coordinator to discuss pedagogy and teaching methods.
- ARYSE: Non-profit that grew out of a program started by students in the School of Ed and Pitt that provides summer classes and activities for school-aged students from the refugee and immigrant community in Pittsburgh.
- Literacy Pittsburgh: Seeking volunteers to do one-on-one or small group tutoring for a six-month commitment; training session provided, along with teaching materials and online materials to guide students through sessions in a structured way.
