As Director of Administration, Karen Billingsley is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the University Honors College.
Karen hails from rural northwestern Pennsylvania where she spent most of her childhood on a farm developing a life-long passion for gardening and all things natural. At Pitt, she earned dual degrees in English writing and psychology before embarking on a working career which began in Pitt's linguistics department. In linguistics, she gained a greater appreciation of the ever-burgeoning and adaptable English language while honing her listening skills as admissions officer for the English Language Institute. From linguistics, Karen advanced to departmental administrator for religious and Jewish studies, cultivating a keen interest in religious architecture and art before ascending to the University Honors College in 1999.
Her interests, in addition to gardening, include Penguin hockey, crossword puzzles, literature from nearly any genre, but especially historical fiction, magical realism and mysteries, local theater, and doting on her grandchildren. Karen and her husband Ron live in Squirrel Hill where on any given evening, you can find her walking Gus, the family's miniature schnauzer, in Frick Park.
